"Born into abject poverty and raised by a detached and destitute foster family, Jackie Cochran refused to allow her bad experiences in youth define her" (National Aviation Hall of Fame). This quote perfectly describes Jackie Cochran- born in 1906. Cochran's husband suggested she take flying lessons to expand her cosmetics firm. After one lesson, her heart was set on becoming a pilot. Her husband, Floyd Odlum, was very supportive and his wealth aided her success; however, her independence ultimately caused her triumph. She became a very successful, well-known pilot and broke countless records. "She read, she listened, she asked questions and she never took ‘no’ for an answer" (WASP WWII Museum).
